Why should I see a doctor:

  • Talk to your doctor if you think you or someone you know may have a problem with prescription drug use;
  • You may feel embarrassed to talk to your doctor about it – but remember that medical professionals are trained to help you, not judge you;
  • Identifying prescription drug abuse as soon as possible is very important;
  • It is easier to tackle the problem early before it becomes an addiction and leads to more serious problems.

General Behavioural Signs:

  • Fatigue, red or glazed eyes, repeated health complains, sweathing, confusion, dizziness
  • Sudden mood changes, including irritability, negative attitude, personality changes and general lack of interest in hobbies/actvities, poor judgement
  • Secretiveness and withdrawing from family;
  • Decresed or obsessiove interest in school work;
  • Missing prescription medicines from your medicine cabinet or additional filled prescriptions that you did not order;
Physical Signs:

Signs of any drug misuse:

  • Vomiting

Signs of painkillers misuse

  • Constipation
  • Belly cramps

Example of drugs: Fentanyl, OxyContin, Demerol, Hydrocodone, Morphine, Percocet

Signs of depressants and painkillers misuse

  • Low blood pressure
  • Constricted pupils
  • Depression
  • Drowsiness

Example of drugs: heroine, alcohol, GHB (a.k.a. date rape drug), Benzodiazepines, Fentanyl, OxyContin, Demerol, Hydrocodone, Morphine, Percocet):

Signs of stimulant misuse

  • High blood pressure
  • Dialated pupils
  • Constipation
  • Belly cramps
  • Diarea
  • Weight loss

Example of drugs: Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Adderall, Ritalin, Concerta, Amphetamine (a.k.a. study aid)
